General Introduction

During the recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have known technological advances in various fields such as microelectronics. Thus, new avenues of investigation have been opened, with the emergence of wireless sensor networks. Wireless sensor networks have many advantages such as low cost of installation and maintenance, easy to be replaced and upgraded, high flexibility and simply organise and configure into effective communication networks. These wireless sensor networks have also high self-sufficient and infrastructure used in various fields such as detection of radiation flux, tracking of moving objects and their positioning. They consist of a large number of small units operating independently and communicating with each other via short-range transmissions. The sensor nodes are designed to be deployed in places difficult to access. This reason creates the need to minimize the physical dimensions of these sensors.
